Menswear Fall 2012: Raf Simons

Menswear has had minute changes year after year. Raf Simons attempted to change the shape of menswear in his fall 2012 collection. The oversized shapes, interesting styled mutli-layered looks, formal yet causal tailored shorts that can be easily worn with sneakers, and the colorful fabric choices were pretty superb. A stand out piece, for me, was the chesterfield coat in the cool vibrant blue which is a great staple for fall. Simons really took inspiration from what the younger generation is wearing today. Fashion is about reinvention and those above the knee shorts throughout  the collection reflected that, perfect for west coast weather. Simons did a great job in directing the reshape of menswear.

Fashion: A$AP Rocky- Goldie

By: Heather K. Martinez

A$AP Rocky is an artist whose career is only continuing to get bigger. A New York native, who doesn’t quite like to publish that for his own reasons, and talented rapper. In his new video “Goldie” you can tell he really is becoming something producing a video at another level from his firsts. Directed by, conceptualized and stylized all by himself, A$AP truly is multitalented.

Even with the shots of nude women rolling around in silk sheets the whole video was truly tasteful and classy while still sticking to his style. Shot in Paris, I really thought it was a step up and even A$AP stated something similar in the behind the scenes video of “Goldie”. Alexander Wang provided the fashion throughout the video. A$AP has established a style for himself that is becoming noticed by some well-known designer names. He has had pretty sophisticated taste in fashion since the start of his career, impressive in my opinion. A$AP Rocky is a name that will only continue to get bigger with his talent and determination.

Take a look at his new video!

Menswear Fall 2012: Lanvin

Alber Elbaz and his designer Lucas Ossendrijver designed a fall collection dedicated to the reinvention of the suit. Elbaz wanted to create something more street yet still modern but not like what you would find your grandfather wearing. It is about being an individual and wearing this look a different way with more of an outerwear appeal to it. Throw on a pair of Nike Blazers, skinny trousers, white-collar shirt and top it off with a bow-tie and blazer and you are good to go. The puff long jackets with the down jacket inner lining are great for casual or formalwear in the fall. Elbaz and Ossendrijver did well on their interpretation of the suit.

Menswear Fall 2012: Givenchy

Riccardo Tisci’s fall collection continued his reinvention of the Scottish kilt and introduced his obsession of the American flag. Tisci kept his man looking modern, masculine and strong. Tailored suits, collared shirts, masculine kilts, sweaters, tailored pants was polished but very goth keeping the color scheme predominantly in black with pops of color. His star embellishment detail throughout the collection was interesting; especially on the collared shirts with the continuation of this detail on the jackets symmetrically placed over. Individuality and confidence is also something evident in the Givenchy man. There was nothing feminine about this collection.  Riccardo Tisci has done a great job in continuing with his signature style.

Missoni X Converse

Hello Everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. Mine is busy as usual. I finally graduate next weekend so I am ecstatic about that and makes all my final project that much more important. This is the final stretch and I want to end it great! So while I was working on a project I decided to take time off and catch up on some Nike Inc. updates.

For all you Missoni fans, Chuck Taylor has continued the All Star Collaboration with the European designer releasing a few new styles for Spring 2012 with the signature zig zag print. I am pretty in love with the silver/gold pair. They are available online and MSRP at $200. If you are a sneaker collector, I would say, these are some must haves to add to your special collection. What do you think about them?

Until next time!

How to tie a scarf…

Hello Everyone! Well, I am a big fan of scarfs. Many of my close friends will agree with that statement. I have been asked many times ‘how do you tie a scarf?’ I never have an exact answer but show them how I personally do it. Here are some good tutorials by Liberty of London on some different ways to tie them. I personally find them pretty helpful, hopefuly you will too! My favorite is the bow tie, I will be trying that soon.

Until next time!

Lana Del Rey

Hello Everyone! I am pretty sure I am a little late at discovering this artist, Lana Del Rey, but I am so obsessed with her right now. ‘A bit retro, ironic and modern’ T magazine describes her sound.  The innocent yet very seductive Brigitte Bardot  look and voice itself for me is very hypnotic and her lyrics are dark, giving the slightly dysfunctional beauty queen vibe. Pouty lips, big brown eyes with cat eye liner, bouffant hair is everything guys desire and girls would like to be. There has been controversy to her look and that she was a manufactured star. That shouldn’t really matter, it should be about the music. I have caught myself putting her ‘Born to Die’   album on repeat. All the songs are very catchy and it is hard to pick a favorite. There is a hint of hip hop influence in her lyrics and sound, which may be why I am absolutely obsessed with her music right now. Lana really is someone to watch out for, I’m looking forward to see what her future in the music industry looks like.

Check out her newest video ‘Carmen.’ Her videos to me seem to have the french cinema look to them, love it!

Until next time!

Music Fix: Drake

Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to share Drake’s HYFR video with you. It is one of his new ones that he released the other day, I’ve seen it about five times right now. It makes me laugh and want to be at this re-bar mitzvah. Looks like it would be a good time. Take a look if you haven’t seen it already.

Until next time!
